Professional Development for Vets

Bam Animal Clinics organizes CPD training for veterinary professionals focused on lifelong learning in animal welfare and ethics. We have been mandated by the Uganda Veterinary Board (UVB) as CPD service providers in animal welfare.

Our CPD programs address gaps in veterinary services that have emerged due to privatization and decentralization of public services in Uganda. We emphasize the importance of animal freedoms and ethical treatment of all animals.

Bam Animal Clinics' CPD project aims to enhance animal welfare in Uganda through Continuous Professional Development for veterinary professionals. Here's a concise overview:

End Goals

  • Improve animal health and welfare by providing quality veterinary services
  • Equip veterinary professionals with updated knowledge and skills
  • Establish a structured Continuous Professional Development (CPD) system for veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals (VPPs) in Uganda, focusing on animal welfare
  • Increase animal welfare knowledge and practices among veterinary professionals nationwide

Specific Objectives

  • Accreditation: Achieve accreditation as an official CPD provider for animal welfare workshops (achieved in 2018), ensuring sustainability and recognition.
  • Knowledge Enhancement: Achieve a 20% increase in participants' knowledge and skills in animal welfare and health within six months.
  • Trainer Capacity: Develop a pool of 100+ trainers who can deliver animal welfare workshops, ensuring long-term impact.
  • Community Outreach: Reach 10% animal owners and caregivers through community education programs, promoting humane treatment and care practices.

Implementation Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive animal welfare CPD curriculum, aligned with national guidelines.
  • Utilize a train-the-trainer approach: experienced trainers equip district vets and VPPs to deliver workshops.
  • Partner with local veterinary institutions and organizations to amplify reach and impact.
  • Roll out CPD workshops region by region, starting with pilot zones and expanding to other areas.
  • Monitor progress through regular assessments, feedback sessions, and evaluate program effectiveness.

Target Groups

Veterinarians and veterinary paraprofessionals (VPPs).
